Event Overview
The Legend of "The Costa"
Step into history by volunteering for the oldest race in Indiana! Now in its 55th year, the Sam Costa Half Marathon is a "runner’s race" with a storied past. Named after a dedicated Chicago detective who traveled 200 miles just to run with his Carmel friends, this event is a hallowed tradition that marks the true beginning of the local spring racing season.
While other races focus on the "bells and whistles," the Costa is about camaraderie, legacy, and community. All net proceeds from the event go back into the running community through high school scholarships and local fitness programs.
Choose Your Impact
With over 100 volunteers needed, you can choose a role that matches your energy and schedule:
Race Sentries (High Priority): Be the eyes and ears on the course! You'll guide runners at key turns, watch for traffic, and provide that much-needed cheer to keep them moving. (Must be 14+).
Aid Station Crews: Join a high-energy team at one of four stations along the route. You’ll prep the tables, hand out hydration to participants, and help with a quick cleanup.
Venue & Logistics: Help with indoor packet pickup in the Northview Student Center, manage parking lot flow, or assist with the post-race "gear check."
Friday Prep: If you want to help but have a busy Saturday, join us on Friday, March 20 to organize race shirts, clean water coolers, or set out course signage.
